Cranes Manned At Port
Crane drivers employed by the Lyttelton Harbour Board offered their full numbers for crane manning at 7 a.m. yesterday.
Apart from a brief period, there has only been token manning outside the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. since watersiders started the new working hours (7 am. to 6 p.m.) earlier this year. The present situation will continue pending a settlement of the new award for New Zealand Harbour Board employees. now being negotiated in Wellington, according to union leaders at Lyttelton. Labour was short yesterday and vessels were shortmanned.
