UNIVERSITY VACANCIES THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY JOHN CURTIN SCHOOL OF MEDICAL RESEARCH DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY Applications are invited from biochemists for appointment as Professorial Fe’.Jow in the Department of Biochemistry. This department is well equipped to carry out studies- involving protein fractionabion and analyses, enzyme purification and most aspects of associated biochemical work, including interme diary metabolism. Applicants for the Professorial Fellowship will be expected to have had extensive experience in biochemistry, with emphasis on enzymology and intermediary metabolism.* They wild also be expected to have made substantial published contributions to the subject. The position carries no undergraduate teaching responsibilities, but the successful applicant will be expected to assist in post graduate teaching and the training of Ph.D. students. The salary of a Professorial Fellow is £A4BOO per annum, and the appointment will be until the age of 65, subject to the possibility of retirement at or after age 60. A Profestsorial Fellow is entitled to one year’s study leave on full pay,* plus a grant towards travel and other expenses, in every six years of service.

BOURKE, Bursar. 3356 THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED STUDIES URBAN RESEARCH UNIT APPLICATIONS are invited for the positions of Senior Fellow Senior Research Fellow Research Fellow To undertake research in the Urban Research Unit of the Research School of Social Sciences, Institute of Advanced Studies. This is a newlyformed Unit whose activities will be directed primarily towards the economic, political and social aspects of urbanisation. Within this general field, research will be organised on a project basis on such issues as, for example, transport problems of cities and location decision-making affecting the distribution of population and business and other activities. It is intended that this research should be conducted on an interdisciplinary basis and slection among applicants may therefore be influenced by the need to represent different disciplines. Succest-ful applicants for the Senior Research Fellowship and Research Fellowship will be subject, for research purposes, to the general oversight of the Senior Fellow who will be responsible for the research project under a School Urban Research Committee. Each successful applicant will be assigned to a School Depart ment appropriate to his discipline and seconded, for a period to be agreed, to the Unit for research purposes. The salary and range of a Senior Fellow are determined within the limits £A3BOO-4460. Appointment is made for an initial period of five years; thereafter he may be reappointed until retiring age. A Senior Fellow is entitled to one year’s study leave on full pay plus a grant of up to £AI3OO for travel and other expenses, in every six years of i service. The salary of a Senior Research Fellow is determined in the range £A3390-4050. and a Research Fellow in the range £A2400-3150. Appointment is normally for a period of three years in the first instance, with a possible extension to five years: in this case, applications for shorter periods could be appropriate.
