HYDE IN FAVOUR FOR BRISBANE CUP
(New Zealand Press Association)
SYDNEY. The three-year-old gelding, Hyde, by the New Zealand sire, Jekyll, has been promoted to second line of the betting market for the Brisbane Cup after his long-neck win in the James Barnes Plate over 10 furlongs at Randwick on Saturday. Hyde, owned by a syndicate of 19 businessmen, will be flown to Brisbane later this week and will run in the Churchill Stakes at Eagle Farm next Saturday and then in the Brisbane Cup on June 14. All but four of Hyde s jubilant owners were at Randwick to see him win, but because the rules of racing restrict the registration to six owners, the others had to watch the presentation after the race from outside the official enclosure. . Hyde had to race wide for a
good part of the race and in the straight was strongly challenged but managed to hold off the fast-finishing Ancestor, with Fair Patton and Saydor deadheating for third. The second placegetter. Ancestor, is not engaged in the Brisbane Cup, but Fair Patton, which came home strongly to i dead-heat for third, is in the I big race. I Fair Patton yesterday cart ried 9-4—lolb more than his ■ cup weight—and finished on strongly from seventh at the > home turn. Fair Patton still holds his l position on the second line of ; favouritism, together with Hyde : and Richetta, in markets on the ' CU- Fhe other three cup cendl--1 dates, River Seine. Striking Force and Marco Khan, were i disappointing.
