No Offence Jumps Well

"The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN. No Offence and Ravelston, two members of H. A. Anderton's team of Jumpers, were most Impressive in their school over the steeplechase fences on the course proper at Wingatui on Saturday morning. Captain Morgan, McGregor and Startler showed to advantage in their schools over hurdles. Conditions were perfect for schooling and the changes to the steeplechase course are definite improvements. Over country the jumpers started over the big brush at the foot of the straight, covered the sod wall, the board fence, the brush which replaces the

sod wall near the mile, the board fence at the half-mile, the water jump, and completed the school over the brush into the straight for the second time. No Offence (A. Allan) and Ravelston (L. Tree) set a torrid pace and jumped brilliantly over the seven fences. They soon left Jolly Fox (M. Parr), which was most disappointing, toiling in the rear, and he was 200 yards behind them at the finish. At Sound Pace McGregor (M. Parr) apart from slipping into the last fence gave a bright display of fencing over four flights of hurdles at a sound pace after galloping five furlongs in company with Melhar. McGregor is a most capable hurdler as he showed when he won by 10 lengths at Gore in

October and he will add considerable interest to the Greenfield Hurdles. Captain Morgan (C. S. Jones) jumped most attractively over six flights and is in top condition to test the jumpers in the Otago Hurdles on the last day of the meeting. In the meantime he will continue his preparation in the open handicaps. Captain Morgan set out to school with Mon Rol. but Mon Roi failed to rise at the first fence and he gave his rider, J. L. Coulter, a severe shaking. Startler (M. Parr) made light of his task over a round of five hurdles. This half-brother by Kurdistan to Bell Man, was purchased at the dispersal sale of the estate of Mr J. T. Clark, at Invercargill, this month for 4()ogns and is now a member of Ih. A. Anderton’s team.
