SUBMARINE PEAK
Investigation Ry Party (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. April 30. Reports dating back to last century of waves breaking over an uncharted submarine peak in the Cook Islands area are to be investigated by New Zealand scientists. A party of 16 scientists and astronomers left Auckland this afternoon in the Antarctic support ship Endeavour to observe the total eclipse of the sun from Manuae in the Cook Islands on May 31. Before leaving on her 1650mile voyage, the Endeavour loaded explosives to be used in making a seismic survey of the area where breakers were reported, about a day's steaming from Manuae. The Endeavour should reach the area in about six days. The Endeavour will anchor off Manuae atoll and equipment and supplies will be ferried through a narrow passage in the reef in native boats. The New Zealanders will be joined by 32 Russians, including five women, about 18 Japanese, 20 Americans and a party of Australians on the atoll.
PERUVIAN police have uncovered a school training girls 14 to 18 years old to become “Lolitas.” Now they are looking for the “teachers,” the leaders of the vice gang.
