Australian Ban
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA, April 30. Australia has banned the import of pigs and uncooked pig meat from New Zealand as a precaution against trichinosis. The Minister of Health (Mr R. Swartz) said today one case of trichinosis been recorded in Australia. Mr Swartz said the ban would be reviewed in the light of medical and veterinary reports on the disease position in New Zealand and breeding requirements. The ban did not apply to canned pig meat, which had to be sterilised.
