RECORD IN MARCH
Coast Output Of Rimu (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, April 29. A record output of West Coast rimu—almost five million super feet—was distributed throughout New Zealand last month. A contributing factor was the increase in production from the recently built Haast mill of Carter Merchants, said the president of the West Coast Sawmillers Association (Mr A. L. McKay). The output in March was 4.842.342 super feet, compared with 3,392,000 super feet for the same period last year. The North Canterbury area received 2,763,058 super feet of the timber, or 57.06 per cent.
Once again Otago was the second highest purchaser, with 17.66 per cent or 855,179 super feet. The third highest amount of 377,462 super feet stayed on the West Coast. The North Island share increased to 350,542 super feet, mainly because 293,702 super feet of rimu from the new Haast mill went north.
The remainder of the output went to South Canterbury with 236,482 (4.86 per cent), Mid-Canterbury 202.617 (4.18 per cent), Oamaru 35,730 (0.74 per cent) and Marlborough with 21,273 super feet or 0.44 per cent.
Output of rimu for the first quarter of 1965 amounted to 10,413,494 super feet, an increase of 600,000 super feet.
