Studious Champion

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, April 1. The Olympic sprint champion, Bobby Hayes (United States), arrived in Sydney today to run in the world professional sprint championship at Wentworth Park on Saturday night. Hayes, who had a bag of school books with him, said he would leave for home again on Monday in order to sit for examinations next week. He is a university student in Florida. “I want to win the world

professional title after having won the Olympic 100 metres,” he said. “Australia has lined up a pretty hot field against me and I won’t be able to take any risks.” His opponents will be Mike Cleary, Nick Yakitch, Terry Clarke, and Dudley Towers. Clarke, from Victoria, is considered to have a great chance against Hayes over 100 yards on a grass track. Most of Hayes’s running in the United States has been on cinders.
