Former Boxing Champion Dead

Sid Godfrey one of Australia’s greatest boxing champions died in hospital early today. He was 68. He had been ill for a month following a sudden seizure. He won the Australian light-weight title by out pointing Harry Stone at Sydney stadium on August 20, 1921. He lost the title on a points decision to Hughie Dwyer on October 14, 1922. Godfrey was regarded as an ornament to his profession and was an extremely popular personality with a full sense of humour. He became a publican and had lived in retirement for years.
