A sound innings of 96 by the Sheffield opening batsman. L. Innes, who figured in an opening partnership of 107 with O. Clark, placed Sheffield in a strong position in its match against Kirwee in the Malvern Sub-Association's senior cricket competition. Scores were:— Sheffield 179 (L. Innes 96, O. Clark 37; B. Bloor five for 56, J. Dysart two for 34), Kirwee 97 for nine (J. Hanson 30: B. Jenkins five for 31, 0. Clark two for 0). Hororata 147 (L. Moore 40, H. Pridie 36 not out, D. McLeod 26: A. Adams four for 38, S. Kay four for 41), Greendale 88 (A. Keenan 28, K. Shipley 21; N. Rothwell eight for 36, Moore two for 11). Darfield 100 (T. Wall 28, G. Loe 23, A. Karst five for 18, G. Nimmo five for 31) and 20 for one. South Malvern (O. Stuart 21; B. Johnston six for 30, Wall four for 14). Last week’s results were: South Malvern 327 beat Hororata 262 on the first innings. Sheffield 338 for six declared beat Darfield 206 and 88 for six on the first innings. Kirwee 200 and 85 beat Greendale 104 and 142 for six on the first innings.

Boys’ Association Competition Boys’ Association cricket matches played on Saturday resulted as follows: SENIOR I Linwood High School 329 (Bhana 94 not out, Patchett 62, Haley 40; Lovell-Smith three for 49. Rutherford three for 93) Christ’s College A six for 2. St. Andrew’s 148 (Bain 45; Hobbs three for 34) Christ’s Callege B 82 for four. Shirley Boys’ High School 178 for six declared (Nahkies 58 not out. Docherty 40, Mathias 38; Partington three for 50), West High School 66 for six (Anderson three for 5). St. Bede’s 208 for four declared (Coffey 66. Ryan 49, Fenn 30 not out; Randall three for 62; Cashmere High School 36 for four). SENIOR II Boys’ High School -B 176 (Atkins'74), Riccarton High School 95 for three (Bidwell 63). St. Bede’s 155 (Walker four for 39, McKechie four for 48). Burnside 157 for six (Walker 66, McHarg 35 not out). SENIOR 111 Christ's College 75 for five declared (Aitken three for 28) beat Technical College 29 (Eastcott four for 6, Helmore three for 12) and 3 (Escott six for none. Helmore four for none) by an innings and 38 runs. Shirley Boys’ High School 71 (Vaughan five for 12, Ware three for 29) and 53 (Larsen three for 9, Ware three for 11, Vaughan three for 17) beat West High School 86 (Robinson eight for 21) and 22 outright.
