BABY DIES IN FIRE
Caravan Blaze On Farm (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 25. A 17-months-old baby died in a caravan fire on a farm near Kerepehi on Christmas Eve. He was Francis John Tierney, son of L.A.C. P. F. Tierney, of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and Mrs Tierney, of 77 Tremewan street, Wellington. The caravan was parked next to a house occupied by Mrs Tierney’s brother, Mr J. L. Carr, a sharemilker on the property of Mr R. E. Tye, of Bush road. Mr and Mrs Tierney left the child sleeping in the caravan to have a cup of tea in the house. They had been absent about 10 minutes when Mrs Tierney went outside shortly before 10 p.m. to see if the baby was all right. She found the caravan burning fiercely. The flames prevented entry to the caravan to rescue the child.
