Fans of singer Nat King Cole today were flooding his hospital room with Christmas cards and messages of cheer. “He’s been getting a bagful of mail a day. I have no idea how many cards and letters—they’re coming in so fast.” a spokesman for St. John's Hospital said today. Cole, who is aged 45, entered hospital on December 8.
He has been undergoing cobalt treatments at nearby Santa Monica Hospital for a presumably cancerous “lung tumour,” although there is no official confirmation the tumour is malignant. Doctors are optimistic the cobalt treatment will reduce the size of the tumour.
Cole is expected to be released from the hospital in about a week. He will return for further treatment a week later, St. John’s attendants said.
