ENDEAVOUR RETURNING
Cargo Dragged To Base
/Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.)
SCOTT BASE, December 21. Cargo was unloaded from H.M.N.Z.S. Endeavour and the return load stowed aboard within 24 hours of her arrival here. The ship is now expected to sail for Lyttelton before noon tomorrow.
The Endeavour berthed more than two miles from Scott Base and the 30 tons of general stores, five tons of cool stores, a tractor, a generator, and a snow track vehicle had to be dragged to the base on sledges.
All available vehicles from Scott Base were used to drag the sledges and the base personnel formed a gang to unload the ship and another to pack away the supplies when they were delivered. Most of the men worked the full 24 hours, taking breaks between loads for light meals.
