WOMAN SHEARER
“To my mind this is the greatest record ever established,” said the senior referee of the Golden Shears International Shearing Championshio Society (Mr F. W. McKinstry) of the feat of Mrs Pamela Warren, who shore 337 sheep in a nine-hour day last month. Mrs Warren recorded this tally at the Puketiti Station, near Piopio. Mrs Warren, who first shore at the Golden Shears in Masterton in 1963 (she was then Miss P. Herlihy) will be competing in the 1965 Golden Shears which will be held during the week ending March 6.
She has agreed to compete in a new competition, the Ladies’ Invitation Event, for which other entries have been received, though more are still required. This will be Mrs Warren’s third appearance at the Shearing Championships in Masterton; the Golden Shears Society hopes that her fine effort will encourage, other women shearers to come forward and compete in their own championship event.
