NEW DELHI, Dec. 20.

India has ordered a Pakistani Embassy official out of the country amid reports of a spy ring being uncovered in the Indian capital. The expelled man was identified as Ghulam Mohammed, a second secretary. He left India on Thursday night. Pakistani officials said Mohammed was ordered out because “a person had been apprehended about 50 yards from the residence of this officer. This person had made a confession and had named the officer.” Earlier, the Home Minister (Mr G. L. Nanda) told Parliament, “the appropriate diplomatic action” was taken after the unearthing of a spy ring in New Delhi. Indian newspapers have published reports that a former Government employee was arrested on December 6 carrying secret military documents near a Pakistani diplomat’s house and that six junior Government clerks were arrested several days later.

In Karachi, the Government of Pakistan on Thursday ordered a second secretary at the Indian High Commission, Mr R. N. Joshi, to leave the country within 24 hours.
