FULL RUGBY TOUR
Aust Plans In 1970 (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SYDNEY, December 8. The Australian Rugby Union is working on a scheme to provide for the first fullscale tour of Australia by a leading Rugby country. The plan, provides for a tour of at least 15 matches by South Africa, probably in 1970. The Springboks might also play five matches in New Zealand after the Australian tour. This would be a complete reversal of normal procedures where visiting sides play only a few games in Australia before a main tour of New Zealand. Asked to comment on the plan, the chairman of the New Zealand union (Mr T. C. Morrison) said in Wellington today there has been an agreement at 1.R.8. meetings regarding New Zealand paying the costs of a Rugby tour by the Springboks to Australia with a brief visit to New Zealand in 1970. There has been discussion regarding future tours and the possibility of Australia being given a major tour of its own. but the whole question was considered in broadest generalities and was to have been the subject of future discussion, Mr Morrison added.
