DANGEROUS
(From Our Own Reporter) HOKITIKA, Nov. 19. Hokitika’s 190-year-old naval cannon, may be fired during the town’s centennial celebrations which start at the end of this year, if the borough council can be convinced it would not explode. The council made this decision last night. “I’m opposed to it tooth and nail,” said Cr. S. G. Havill. “A similar cannon was fired In Westport some years ago. It exploded, and killed the firer. It was stated that the cannon was normally fired with a 51b powder charge. But it was proposed to use only a lib of powder for the centennial firing.
