Wellington Tow For Treneglos
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, November 19. The Treneglos is expected, to be towed to Wellington on Saturday or Sunday morning, depending on the tide there. A survey of the ship has been ordered for tomorrow, and steel tow wires were being laid out on the wharf this afternoon.
Extra wires are also being spliced. A spokesman for the divers inspecting the vessel said this evening little more could be done. An underwater examination of the hull would be made at 8 a.m., he said. Work had been carried out on the after hold. Attempts had been made last evening to pump out the tunnel, but without success,” he said. “It is leaking through No. 7 bulkhead, and further efforts were made this afternoon,” he said. Mr V. F. Yeldon, leader of the team, who spent 13 hours underwater in the last few days, has left the job because of urgent commitments. He was working from 4 a.m. on Saturday, when he was pinned under the vessel on the reef, until 5 p.m. yesterday.
Another marine surveyor had been sent from Wellington to replace the man previously appointed, he said. The vessel, apart from a few scratch marks, is clear from No. 4 hold to No. 3 hold.
