“Slow” Whale Season
(JV Z. Press Association) BLENHEIM, Nov. 19. With six weeks of the season behind them, the Tory Channel whalers have caught their thirtieth sperm whale. But one of the principals, Mr G. T. Perano, said today that the season was “pretty slow.” None of the whales tagged by the whalers, the Marine Department and the Navy has been caught. Mr Perano said this indicated the whales were going somewhere else, and that someone eise was catching them. The use of a spotting aircraft working ahead of the chaser Orca had proved fairly successful, he said.
