Second TV Channel
Sir, —I find it difficult to understand the pressure being brought to bear for a second television channel, especially by the viewers’ association. A top advertising executive said there is a potential £1,300,000 worth of television advertising the present station cannot handle. We know from experience of radio how the N.Z.B.C. will react to a second television channel. The non-advertising channel will be programmed with abstract, unpopular material, while the other will have popular features sandwiched between the existing high advertising level plus a good slice of the above extra which at present is going to waste. This must cause much frustration.—Yours, etc., R.J.H. November 16, 1964.
