No Prize Money
A. Kidd, a 19-year-old Scottish professional golfer who came to New Zealand a few months ago, may decide to return to Britain in protest against the “restrictive attitude” of the New Zealand Professional Golfers’ Association. Kidd has been told by the association that he may play in the series of sponsored tournaments but that he may not collect prize money for any places he may fill because as a sports store professional he is ineligible to join the association for three years. At present Kidd is professional to the Otago Golf Club. Previously he was a full member of the Britsh Professional Golfers’ Association and was attached to the famous Troon Club. Yesterday, a despondent Kidd said that if the situation did not improve he might return to Scotland as soon as possible.
