TV FEE DISPUTE

“Reasonable” Offer

The £37 10s fee plus a facilities fee of £2O offered by the Broadcasting Corporation for the televising rights of the Open golf championship a Shirley was to televise the last two holes on the final day, not the final round, said Mr C. Martin, assistant supervisor of sports of the corporation, yesterday. Mr Martin had been asked to comment on the decision of the Christchurch Golf Club in refusing to accept the proposed fee on the ground that it was too small and took no account of the large following of golf and the importance of the open championship. He said that the corporation had only telecast one Open before and it was felt that the fee offered was a realistic figure as only two holes would be telecast. “We cannot see that the telecasting of two holes would adversely affect any gate,” said Mr Martin.
