The Very Rev. Father R. W. Dobbs, formerly of Christchurch, has been appointed superior of the Redemptorist monastery in Auckland, it was announced in Vatican City this week. He is the son of the late Mr W. Dobbs and Mrs Florence Dobbs of 61 Ferry road.
For the last three years Father Dobbs has been a member of the staff of the Redemptorist monastery in Dunedin. He received his secondary education at St. Bede’s College and was educated for the priesthood in Australia, at St. Clement’s College at Galong. Father Dobbs was ordained in Ballarat in 1953 and is now 37 years old. His brother, the Rev. Father P. Dobbs, is also a member of the Redemptorist order and is teaching at St. Clement’s College. The Rev. Father T. Cloher, of Christchurch, commenting on Father Dobbs’ appointment, said: “We consider it quite a distinction to have one of our own priests appointed.
