EXTREME GROUP
Call For Probe (N.Z P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Nov. 17. The Un-American Activities Committee of the House of Representatives was asked today to investigate a Rightwing, heavly-armed secret group calling itself “The Minutemen."
Congressman Charles Joelson (Democrat, New Jersey), who made the request, said The Minutemen were being organised into guerrilla bands and were threatening to make Government changes by force. He mentioned a report quoting Bolivar Depugh, head of the organisation, as saying that the course of all conservatives after the election defeat of Senator Barry Goldwater was “to join The Minutemen’s secret underground army for training as America’s last line of defence against communism.” There have been reports that total membership of The Minutemen ranges from a few thousand to 100,000 throughout the country.
