MR R. W. H. MASLIN
Mr R. W. H. Maslin, principal of the Kaikorai Valley High School, died in Dunedin recently. He was 52. He had been principal of the school since 1957. Mr Maslin was educated at Otago Boys High School and the University of Otago. He graduated M.A. in English and French in 1935 and Dip. Ed. in 1936, while also attending the Dunedin and Christchurch Teachers’ Colleges. He taught at Musselburgh. Forbury, and Airedale schools between 1931 and 1938. After two years as second assistant at the Omakau School and a short period at King’s High School in Dunedin he was appointed an assistant master at the Waimate High School where he remained until 1947. For the next 10 years Mr Maslin taught at Waitaki i Boys’ High School where he became senior master, head of the English and French departments and chief supervisor of evening classes. He served in the army for | two years during World War 11, rising to the rank of captain. Mr Maslin was a former Rugby and tennis player and a winner of the intermediate plate in the South Island golf tournament. In Oamaru he took a prominent part in golf, little theatre and Rugby union activities. He was secretary of the Dunedin Post-Primary Principals’ Association from its inception in 1957 until 1962. Mr Maslin is survived by his wife and two daughters.
