Bacteria Not Found
After 22 tests last month, the laboratory staff of the Grey Hospital was unable to detect any faecal coli bacteria in Greymouth’s water supply. The surgeon-superintendent of the hospital (Mr S. de C. Barclay) told the monthly meeting of the board of the results of the tests. Mr J. McPhee asked if all the tests were taken from the same places each month and Mr Barclay replied that all tests taken last month were from tap water in the laboratory.— (F.0.0.R.)
Sergeant S. W. Byers, of the Christchurch Central Police Station, will be appointed a full-time civil defence officer on Monday. He will co-ordinate the recruiting, organising and training of the civil defence police and deal with special police matters generally.
