Arthur’s Pass Railway Yards
Sir, —I was very pleased to read the statement by the chairman of the National Parks Authority, Mr R. J. MacLachlan, regarding the state of the railwav yards at Arthur’s Pass. He said that “the untidy railway reserve dd not give a very good impression to anyone newly arriving.” In my reply to a letter I wrote to your column some time ago, Mr M. R. Leineweber District Traffic Manager of Railways, assumed that I was referring to the temporary station buildings. I was not and was very pleased to have my statement backed up by a person of such authority as Mr MacLachlan regarding the untidy state of the yards, and sincerely hope that something will be done about it.—Yours etc., PRESERVE BEAUTY. November 17, 1964.
