Driver Trapped When Car Hits Pole

A car driven by Bruce Peter Penrose, of 304 Keys road, North New Brighton, struck a pole in Mairehau road about a mile east of Burwood Hospital on Saturday morning. Mr Penrose was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital suffering from head and internal injuries, a broken right leg and shock. He was on the seriously ill list on Saturday but he was taken off the seriously ill list yesterday and his condition was reported as satisfactory. The car was badly damaged and it took about 25 minutes to extract Mr Penrose as the doors had jammed and had to be prised open with a lever. Facial Lacerations.—When two cars collided at the corner of Moorhouse avenue and Montreal street John East, of No. 8 R.D., Oamaru, suffered facial lacerations. He was treated at the Christchurch Hospital.

Run Over By Car.—Grant Ronald Takle, aged two, suffered chest injuries and shock when he was run over by a car in the drive of his home yearly yesterday afternoon. He was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital. Motor-Cyclist Hurt—Winston John Thompson, of 100 Edward street, suffered head lacerations and arm injuries when a motor-cycle and a van collided at the corner of Madras street and Oxford terrace about 5.55 p.m. yesterday. He was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital. Car Rolls Over.—A car rolled over on Sparks road, near Hendersons road, yesterday afternoon. Barry Edgington, of 121 Selwyn street, suffered a fractured jaw, leg and collar bone and was admitted to Burwood Hospital. Three Persons Injured.— When a car and a van collided at the corner of Antigua street and Moorhouse avenue about 4.20 p.m. yesterday three persons were injured. William Alfred Stevenson, of 31 Essex street, suffered head injuries and was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital. Judith Ann Quinn, of 190 Peterborough street, suffered head and leg injuries and Gale Calder, of 14 Braddon street, suffered shock. They were both treated at the Christchurch Hospital. Leg Injuries.—Robin Fay Brown, of 14 Jollie street, suffered leg injuries when two cars collided at the corner of Gloucester and England streets about 12.10 a.m. yesterday. She was treated at the Christchurch Hospital. Hit By Car.—When he was leaving the Surf City dance at the South Brighton Community Hall about 12.10 a.m. yesterday Thomas James Streeter, of 69 Pine avenue. Stewarts Gully, was hit by a car. He was treated at the Christchurch Hospital for shock and minor injuries.
