BADMINTON DRAW
NX’s Final Tour Game (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) PENANG, Nov. 1. The New Zealand badminton team brought its Malaysia tour to a successful conclusion with an excellent 3-3 draw against Penang, the champion state team. Miss G. Tompkins gave New Zealand its first win by decisively beating the local champion, Ng Mei Ling, and then 0. Clegg just headed off a determined Khoo Khay. The most exciting match was the women's doubles in which Misses Simpson and Pritchard were down 9-14 in the decisive third set and had six match points against them. They fought magnificently and won a tense third set, 17-16. Results:— Women's Singles: Miss G. Tompkins beat Ng Mei Ling, 11-7, 11-4. Men’s Singles: R. Purser lost to Tan Aik Huang, 3-15, 3-15; O. Clegg beat Khoo Khay, 15-3, 7-15, 17-15. Men's Doubles: Higgins and Musker lost to Teh Kew San and Bobby Chee, 7-15, 8-15; Purser and Clegg lost to Eddy Choon and Tan Soon, 9-15, 2-15.
Women’s Doubles: Misses Simpson and Pritchard beat Mrs Heah and Mrs Ewe Choon, 15-4, 11-15, 17-16.
