WAITANGI SIGNING
Anniversary Ceremony (N.Z. Preu Annotation) WELLINGTON, Oct. 2. A special ' ceremony will mark the one hundred and twenty-fifth anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi on February 6 next year, the Minister of Lands (Mr Gerard) said today. The Government and the Waitangi National Trust Board planned to hold a special function at the new Waitangi Tourist Hotel. The hotel will open in December. Mr Gerard said he expected large crowds as February 6 falls on a Saturday—and Northland will be holding its Waitangi Day holiday. He said addresses would be made by the GovernorGeneral (Sir Bernard Fergusson), a representative of the Waitangi National Trust Board, and a representative of the Maori race. Members of the diplomatic corps and Maori dignatories would also attend the celebration. The New Zealand Naval Band would beat retreat at sunset, and naval units in the bay would be floodlit. Concerts would be given by the Queen Victoria Maori Girls’ College and the St. Stephen’s Maori Boys’ College.
