N.I. CYCLISTS SUCCESSFUL

Junior And Colts Titles (N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Oct. 2. Sprinting from a wall of green-shirted riders, B. Bate (West Coast, North Island) won the national junior 50-mile road cycling championship, on the Kiwitahi circuit, near Morrinsville, today. Bate won by half-a-wheel from a tight group of his team-mates, who took second, third and fourth positions. They were J. Dean, M. Mildenhall and E. Chang. The fifth place went to P. Trussler, of Auckland, and P. Veen, of Hawke’s BayPoverty Bay, was sixth. Another—West CoastNorth Island rider, M. Vertongen, won the 10-mile race for colts. Two Southland riders, D. Faulkner and S. Varlow, were second and third. All three recorded the same time of 25min 46sec.
