Mothers’ Union Festival
Members of the Mothers’ Union and Young Wives’ Groups in Akaroa, Little River, Lyttelton, Lincoln, Dunsandel, Southbridge and Leeston celebrated their annual archdeaconry festival in Southbridge recently. About 100 members attended the morning service of Holy Communion in St James’s Church, when the celebrant was the Rev. C. L. Dobbs.
In the afternoon, 120 Mothers’ Union and Young Wives’ Group members filled the church for the special festival service. During this service, six banners from the various centres were carried through the church by members wearing the blue Mothers’ Union veils. The Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. W. A. Pyatt) preached the sermon, and took as his text the story of the marriage at Cana. The festival was attended by several members of the diocesan executive committee, including Mrs W. A. Pierre (diocesan president), Mrs W. P. Bornet (minute secretary), Mrs D. Byrne (diocesan librarian), and Mrs H. Turner (literature secretary). Mrs H. J. Eaton (Dominion chairman Young Wives’ Groups) was also present.
