CRICKET’S OPEN DAY
Five Playing School Xis
Only two senior cricket clubs—Lancaster Park and St. Albans, the champion—will not be playing other teams when opening days are held tomorrow. Five teams are playing school elevens and the sixth, West Christchurch-University, will be meeting Star (Ashburton), which includes in its ranks two players well known in Christchurch, C. R. Nicholson and P. Andrews. West-University’s match will be at Hagley Oval, as will that between Riccarton and Riccarton High School. St Albans will also hold its opening day at the park. The other club usually resident at Hagley, Christchurch Boys’ High School Old Boys, will meet the Christchurch Boys’ High School first eleven at Straven road. East Christchurch-Shirley will meet Shirley Boys’ High School at the school and will also hold the opening day there. Sydenham will play Cashmere High School at Sydenham Park—this match will start in the morning—and Old Collegians will play the Christ’s College first eleven at Elmwood Park. Lancaster Park’s opening will be on the club's home ground but there will be a match of sorts only if a wicket is available.
