Sir, —Mr Brown doubts if half the working population of even the western world is making offensive goods. He must remember that wasted effort must include all those in the armed forces besides those who feed and clothe them. He also doubts that capitalists who make these goods are in collusion internationally. Has he forgotten, the report in the cable news a fortnight ago in which details were given of the help being given by Russia, America and Britain to India to enable her to put into the field an army of 800,000? Were the collusion there accidental or intentional, the fact remains that the electors in all countries are responsible for this state of
affairs by accepting the proposition that full employment is the only answer to efficiency in production. Recently, 32 intellectuals addressed a memorandum to President Johnson pointing out that society cannot survive unless the wages of the machine are paid to every individual.—Yours etc., W. B. BRAY. Leeston, October 1, 1964.
