Tramway District?
Sir, —A recent public notice stated: “Nominations of candidates . . . Christchurch Tramway District.” I have often been puzzled by this reference to “Christchurch Tramway.” Surely some amendment is called for now that we have progressed from trams to buses. —Yours, etc., KEEP UP WITH THE TIMES. September 20, 1964. [The general manager of the Christchurch Transport Board (Mr J. F. Fardell) replies: “The principal act unde. which the board operates is known as the Christchurch Tramway District Act, 1920, and the correct description of the board’s district is the Christchurch Tramway District, as set down in its statute. That is the reason for using it in statutory notifications involving the board’s district. The official name of the board is the Christchurch Transport Board.”]
