Mail Notices
Sir, —The explanation given by the chief postmaster is interesting, but why is the proviso, “unless otherwise indicated," not used on these occasions? In today’s list several mails are shown as closing at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 28, with no indication that second-class mail closes earlier than “10 a.m. the previous day.” Surely this fact should be clearly stated. My own disappointment is great, as a parcel which could have been well on its way is presumably lying in Christchurch until October 15, the next date given for mail to Europe.—Yours, etc., G.B.W. September 25, 1964. [The Chief Postmaster (Mr J. W. Lincoln) says:-r-“Jn future, when a surface mail is advertised as closing on a Monday, the actual closing time of the second-class mail will be clearly stated in the mail notice.”]
