BY-ELECTION IN KAIAPOI
Mr C. T. Williams Successful Mr C. T. Williams has been elected to the Kaiapoi Borough Council to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr R. Smith. A provisional count after yesterday’s by-election showed that Mr Williams received 521 votes, and the only other candidate, Mr H. T. Wilkinson, received 232 votes. There were 10 informal votes. The returning officer (Mr C. W. D. Hodgson) said last evening that there were about 50 special votes to be counted, but these could not affect the final result. Mr Hodgson said he thought the return was quite a good one for a byelection.
