Wild Sky A wild and threatening sky to the north-west of Christchurch dominated the city yesterday afternoon. The day was mainly eloudy with a few sunny periods, and a maximum temperature of 67 degrees was recorded at Harewood at 11 a.m. The temperature was 56 degrees at 9 a.m., 59 degrees at noon, and 65 degrees at 4 p.m. At the Botanic Gardens at 3 p.m. the temperature was 61 degrees, and was 65 degrees on the Government Life building at 4.30 p.m. The wind was a moderate north-easterly and a few spots of rain fell during the late morning. Eight Lives Left A cat which climbed a pole at Kaurilands and touched an 11,000-volt high-tension line owed its life to the fact that it was standing on a dry timber cross arm. A motorist saw the cat and a puff of smoke and telephoned the Waitemata Electric Power Board. Two linemen were sent to rescue the cat and power was shut off for only three minutes. Whitebait Running There have been some good runs of whitebait in Buller streams this week, catches being up to 1001 b from the Buller and big hauls from the Orowaiti and other rivers. Most of the whitebait is being flown to the North Island, some large consignments going early this week.
