OWN RADIO STATION
Students Will Apply (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 29. Auckland University students want to run their own radio station with a two-hour programme twice a week. They will apply for a licence for the station and also ask for backing from the Students’ Association. The plan is to broadcast within a 25-mile radius of the university. The programme would be made up of university news, lectures, music and drama. The students would build the station themselves and it could be running by late February next year. Victoria University students in Wellington have asked the Minister of Broadcasting (Mr Scott) to clarify the Government’s policy on private and university radio stations. Recently Canterbury University students were refused a permit by the Post Office for a radio station. The grounds were that the station would have entertainment value.
