EMPLOYERS 9 ASSN.
“Useful Place In System" (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept 8. It was fallacious to say that an employers’ association had no positive role to play, but was only concerned to negate the efforts of trade unions, says the president of the Wellington Employers’ Association (Mr C. R. Clayton) in his address in the association’s annual report. “Our association is not anti-unions; on the contrary we respect unions as an institution and believe that they have a necessary part to play in our industrial system,” said Mr Clayton. The successful operation of the New Zealand system required the existence of organised labour and organised management living side by side and balancing one another in negotiation and fair compromise.
