"The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN. September 8. The Wingatui trainer, J. S. McKay, who was one of the most successful trainers at the Otago Hunt meeting at Wingatui on Saturday, contemplates campaigning Fine Chase, Royal Burgh and Lord Fair at the Auckland spring meeting next month.
Fine Chase, who had his last race as a hurdler at the Grand National fixture, impressively winning the. Styx Hurdles on the final day of the meeting, has had two starts over country for a second and a decisive win in the Otago Hunt Cup at Wingatui on Saturday. There are two £lOOO hack and hunters’ steeplechases on the programme at Ellerslie which would suit the Foxshar gelding. Royal Burgh made a promising start this season with a third to Combination and Wester in the Aylesbury Handicap at the Grand National meeting, then left maiden class at the Eastern Southland Hunt meeting at Gore in a most attractive manner. On Saturday at Wingatui he Scored decisively in the hack sprint. Lord Fair has developed Into a promising distance hack. His second placing to Debater in the Summer Hack Handicap and to Calvados in the Redcliffs Hack Handicap at the Grand National meeting were impressive efforts.
