CAMBRIDGE GALLOPERS

Spring Trip To Aust. "The Press" Special Service CAMBRIDGE, Sept. 8. The Cambridge gallopers, Kiwi Fox and Damian’s Pride, will leave New Zealand by air for Australia early next month. They will travel in the care of their trainer, W. J. Pratt, and it is expected to stable them in country quarters near Melbourne for their preparation for major spring Australian engagements. Their programme has not been completed yet. Both have been entered for the Melbourne and Caulfield Cups. No riding engagements have been made. Both horses have trained on satisfactorily. Damian's Pride, which has raced once since resuming after a. spell is engaged in the Coakley Memorial Handicap at Thames next Saturday. Kiwi Fox is likely to race either at Matamata or Te Aroha later this month. During Pratt’s absence his Cambridge team will be cared for by B. Meyer, who formerly trained successfully at Cambridge until leaving the district three years ago. Among horses he gained success with were On Demand, Beech Park, Whitiora and Danny Oman. Tatua, which went to Australia with Pratt last spring resumed work on Monday after suffering a setback which caused him to be spelled for a month. Plans for him depend on his progress in work over the next few weeks. Trip Not Justified The Cambridge horses, Llanelly and King’s Credit, which were entered for major Australian spring handicaps will not make the trip, their trainer, J. W. Winder, said on Tuesday. Llanelly had made steady pro, gress since resuming work but he did not feel she was forward enough at this stage to justify the trip. Llanelly won the Chalmers Handicap over two miles at Trentham last March and also won open handicaps at Thames and Ellerslie and has shown staying ability. She will be prepared for handicap racing at home. King’s Credit is engaged in the Coakley Handicap at Thames this week and will be ridden by G. R. Edge.
