TV Accessories

Sir, —Lately we purchased a television set, but find our reception rather poor. Someone suggested a coloured piece of polythene to stick over the front. We bought one, and must admit it cuts down the “snow’ considerably. The snag, however, is the price: £3 19s 6d! This surely seems a ridiculous amount for a square of polythene. Is it another example of exorbitant charging? I would be glad if someone would tell' me the price of this material.—Yours, etc., VIEWER. August 25, 1963. [The secretary of the Canterbury and Westland Retailers’ Association, Mr W. M. West, says: “From the detail outlined we would presume that the correspondent has purchased a 'Surrey filter’ which is designed by its manufacturers to improve television viewing. The product is polythene, treated by an intricate process with three-colour tinting. The price quoted by the correspondent is the usual price for the product.”]
