SOLDIER’S VIOLIN

Worth Weight In Gold (N.Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) MOSCOW, July 19. A Ukrainian peasant has discovered that the violin he played to entertain his fellow soldiers in World War II is worth its weight in gold, Tass reports. Alexsei Medushenko, an amateur musician, was given the violin in 1921 as a reward for gallantry rnd carried it in his kit bag during the war. Visitors to his home recently noticed an Italian inscription on the violin. Experts have since established it as an Amati, made by Nicolo Amati, teacher of Stradivarius, in. 1645. Medushenko has decided to give it to a state collection, the agency said.
