Taxation
Sir,—What a humourist “Make Mine Aspirins” has proved. He asks me to stick to points raised. Surely he was - the first to suggest that the Social Security payments be decreased in order to increase money. for defence. Whose memory is really short? As far as the remarks about Japan are concerned they could more fittingly be addressed to Mr Holyoake. So I can’t see the wood for the trees? At least I have seen that after every war the combatants get round a table and eventually sign a treaty. Why not carry out this procedure “before” going to war. Surely this was what the United Nations was instituted for. With regard to Indonesia, why not drop a bomb in their midst if they won’t behave themselves as was done in Japan? Is there a difference, and is that difference that Russia was on our side at that time?—Yours, etc., TOM BRYCE; June 28, 1964.
