Captain McLeish
Sir,—Space cannot allow full coverage of this muchrespected master mariner, and I am sorry mention of the Hinemoa was ' omitted; but so were many other vessels. As the writer served under this shipmaster in thrpe ships, including one of the inter-island steamers, I claim to have ■ known him fairly well. In any case, interisland steamer masters are traditionally experts at handling their vessels in exacting conditions, and I agree that Captain McLeish was one of these. If “A Friend” would care to read a fuller account, he might like to look at the “Weekly News” for January, 1963, which gives a summarised story of his seafaring career.—Yours, etc., JOURNALIST. June 26, 1964. -
