LUTHERAN CHURCH
Anniversary Celebration St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, on the corner of Montreal and Worcester streets,- will celebrate' the.fortieth anniversary of its ■formation from August 4 to August 9.
There will be special evening services at 7.30 p.m. on August 4, 5 and 6, and on Sunday, August 9. The present. pastor, the Rev. K. W. Schuessler, will preach atthese services. On the Saturday evening, a programme ,of entertainment will be presented at the church hall. In 1922, the Rev. R. H. Altus, who visited Christchurch last month, arrived from Australia as a newlygraduated. minister, and two years later St. Paul’s congregation was formed. The church was originally a wooden building .which' was later demolished, and a brick church was erected in 1933. As members grew the need for a Sunday School, meeting room, and other amenities resulted in the present church being built and dedicated in 1961. The church has about 250 members.
