A record tote turnover of £432,968 was recorded on the second day of the Royal Ascot meeting today. It was. the largest recorded at any racecourse since the totallsator began to operate in Britain in 1929. The previous highest total was £406,425 on the corresponding day in 1961. The meeting continued its attendance boom today, when 8500 more patrons arrived than on the second day in 1963. This eclipsed the 6000 increase of Tuesday’s opening day over the 1963 opening day. Results of the main races run today:— Royal Hnnt Cup, £4335; lm.—Major Dermot McCalmont’s Zeleucus (four-year-old, Bst 21b), ridden by D. Smith, 1; Mrs F. Nale’s Gelert (five-year-old, 7-0), D. Greening, 2; Mrs A. Savile’s Emerald Cross (four-year-old, 7st 31b) W. Jesse, 3. Official starting prices were: 100 to 7 Zaleucus, 66 to 1 Gelert, 22 to 1
Emerald Cross. Gulliver 100/9 favourite. Red Slipper fourth at 22 .to 1. Zaleucus won by a head with one length between second and third. Coronation Stakes (three-year-old fillies), £11,420; lm.—Mr R. D. Hollingsworth’s Ocean (Bst 71b) G. Starkey .1; Mr H. G. Blagrave’s Words and Music (9st) R. Hutchinson 2; Lady Granard’s Pourparler (9st) G. Bouboure 3. Official starting prices were 7 to 1 Ocean, 33 to 1 Words And Music, evens favourite Pourparler. Ocean won by a neck with three lengths between second and third.
