THIRD IN U.S. DEBUT

Final Command In Sprint

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) May 28. Champion New Zealand horse Final Command was placed third in his American debut in the six-furlpng 10,000 dollar (about £4464) Franciscan Purse at Hollywood Park yesterday, United Press International reported. The five-year-old gelding, owned by Mr Sultan, was matched against six other sprinters in the day’s top race. The winner was Typhoon II with Turloc in second place. Time for the race was 1:09 2-5. Final Command was eighth on the money winning list in New Zealand in the 1962-63 season with earnings of £7615. Final Command fought a thrilling finish with the seasoned Typhoon 11, Tuloc and Kicapu Kid down the home straight, but gave way slightly in the last few lengths. Typhoon 11, spurred on by top jockey, E. Burns, gained an extra effort from his six-year-old to win by half a length. The highly rated Final Command, who finished first in five of seven starts in the 1962-63 season in New Zealand, was ridden yesterday by D. Ross.
