TUNNEL JOB CONDITIONS
Men Elected For Talks
The men working on the diversion tunnel job at Aviemore and the access tunnel at West Ann, had both elected two representatives for any futufe negotiations on job coverage, said the South Island secretary of the New Zealand Workers’ Union (Mr W. A. Dempster). These representatives, he said, would be available when required to- help officials of the New Zealand Workers’ Union to negotiate an agreement with the contractors for working conditions on both jobs. The talks would probably be held in Wellington. The contractors involved for the Aviemore job are Downer - Morrison - Knudsen, with Downer the principal contractor. On the West Arm job Morrison-Downer-Fletcher are the contractors, with Morrison the principal contractor.
Mr Dempster said workers on the West Ann access tunnel job had received a union subscription account from the Otago General Labourers’ Union.
